Meeting This Moment With Wisdom & Purpose
A Podcast Conversation on Today’s World, Self-Leadership, and Right Action
A couple of weeks ago, as we were both feeling an increasing sense of despair about what is unfolding in Gaza, my friend Maya text me with a question:
I wondered if you have any views on transforming this extreme sadness into something more practical we can do as coaches?
That text turned into an hour-long phone call full of reflections, questions and discussion on what is happening in the world, what it is evoking for us (depending on the moment — sadness, grief or anger) and what we could do. By the end of the conversation we both said, we should have recorded that. So, we did the next best thing — we sat down and had an open conversation for Maya’s podcast on the questions we are asking ourselves and how we are navigating the world right now. Our intention was that by sharing our thoughts, challenges, and ideas openly, the conversation might help others. In the end, it became two episodes.
🌍🤝 Episode 1: How to Live & Lead When the World is in Crisis
In the first episode, we discussed navigating how we feel so we can meet this moment in time with wisdom.
In this episode, we explore:
💡 Why it is important to acknowledge your grief or anger is a completely valid reaction to be experiencing in the world right now.
💡 The importance of self-leadership: How to hold sadness, anger, or despair in a way that’s useful rather than helpless.
💡 Why holding the desire for cohesion in our conversations matters: highlighting the nuance between raising awareness or discussing what is happening while conscious of the risk of creating division in our communities.
💡 How to have courageous conversations about big, important topics in a way that builds connection rather than increases polarisation.
💡How our online spaces and our real-life conversations need to be different: thoughts on using social media mindfully to stay informed without losing the ability to show up with care and nuance in real relationships
🕉️🎯 Episode 2: Dharma: Making Purpose Real - Moving Towards Right Action
In our second conversation, we focused on the longer term. External events can activate something in you, and when that happens the next question becomes: And what? How will you turn that inner realisation or desire into right action?
In this episode, we explore:
🕉️ How to channel what you’re feeling — the urgency and the desire to act — into longer-term plans.
🕉️ The concept of Dharma — and becoming the person necessary to make real the change you want to see
🕉️ Why your contribution to the world is uniquely yours, and how clarity on who you are helps you put it into action.
🕉️ Real-world examples of how vision, ideas, skills, and passion can weave together over time into meaningful contributions.
Both episodes were recorded during the week ending 1st August 2025.
🪷Lastly, with the world so heavy at the moment, it can be equally important to find ways to reset and recalibrate. Starting next week — from August 12th — Maya will be sharing daily “August Rejuvenation” episodes as she describes here:
If August were a day of the week, I’d want it to be a Sunday: lazy, unhurried, and the perfect pause before Monday (a.k.a. September!). But in reality, switching off can be harder than staying on — and often it’s the small, intentional actions that make the biggest difference. Starting August 12th, I will be sharing daily episodes including tiny activities that orient us towards a more spacious and relaxing Summer.
I (Fiona again!) will be on vacation next week and I plan to listen in myself — weaving these episodes into my own holiday reset before work and life picks up the pace again in a few weeks.
